WO+MEN fEST 2018

Wo+Men fEST, Women and Men for Engineering, Science, and Technology, is an NTU initiative to bring together women and men to share the exciting advances in engineering, science, and technologies with our community through various activities that are inclusive of practitioners, supporters, and the masses.

The Wo+Men fEST is held on Marie Curie’s birthday every year (7 November). She is the only person (who happens to be a woman) to win the Nobel prize in two different science categories (Physics 1903 and Chemistry 1911). This year’s Nobel prize is particularly interesting because in the same two categories, Physics and Chemistry, the laureates are women, Donna Strickland (Physics) and Frances H. Arnold (Chemistry). Frances H. Arnold was in Singapore earlier this year as the plenary speaker of our biennial WiESTSymposium 2018

The first Wo+Men fEST activity was held in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of Marie Curie’s birthday, on 7 November 2017, featuring local women academics who shared their research and aspirations.

Into its second edition, WO+MEN fEST 2018 will feature five NTU academics from College of Engineering, College of Science, and College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.

The 2018 Wo+Men fEST is proudly sponsored by Micron.

The WiEST Conference Grant established in 2018 by the College of Engineering, the College of Science at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and the Gouw Family Foundation aims to facilitate networking opportunities for young women engineers and scientists to embark on their careers.

The joint call for applicants for the WiEST Conference Grant is held annually on 7 November during the WO+MEN fEST event.
