Synopsis

If AI can write your essays and solve your math problems, what’s the point of learning anymore? In this fast-paced, myth-busting session, engineer and learning expert Professor Barbara Oakley shows why real understanding still matters and how to build it. You’ll discover how your brain actually learns (hint: it’s not through rereading), and how to use AI tools without letting them turn your brain to mush. You’ll also learn the #1 mistake students make when using ChatGPT. You’ll also learn why “slow” learners often become the deepest thinkers, and how to use proven techniques like retrieval, spaced repetition, and direct practice to master tough subjects. Whether you’re fast or thoughtful, this session helps you learn better and thrive in the age of AI.
