Elevate your research presentations and publications with clear, professional, and visually engaging scientific figures - no expensive software required.

Join us for a hands-on workshop led by Muhammad Hadi Ikhsan, Research Engineer II at the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS), and a seasoned multidisciplinary designer. Discover how to create publication-quality figures using Inkscape, a free and open-source vector graphics editor.

Abstract

In this workshop, you'll learn:

  1. Vector vs Bitmap: Understand when and why to use each in scientific publishing.
  2. Inkscape Essentials: Get comfortable with key tools and workflows for figure creation.
  3. Design Like a Pro: Apply layout, typography, and colour principles to improve clarity and impact.
  4. Polish Your Work: Learn techniques to refine and format your figures for journals, theses, and presentations.

Bring your laptop with Inkscape pre-installed and follow along using the provided workshop files below. Alternatively, you can observe the workshop and practice with the software afterwards.
