Rethinking Asian Growth Models brings together scholars working across Asia to examine the diverse pathways through which economies have achieved and sustained growth.
Drawing on six cases — India, Vietnam, South Korea, recently industrialised regions of China, Indonesia, and Bangladesh — the workshop explores what actually made growth work in each context, which conditions can be transferred across countries and regions, and where such transfers may break down.
The workshop will feature presentations and discussions among scholars including Rosa Abraham, Suresh Babu, Dae-oup Chang, Mohamad Ikhsan, Nur Komaria, Jiang Liu, Shaohua Zhan, Mustafizur Rahman, and Srinivasan Ramani, convened by Vignesh Rajahmani and Jon Wilson.
The workshop seeks to move beyond broad explanations of the “Asian growth model” by examining the specific institutional, political, and economic conditions that shaped different experiences of development across Asia.
