Understanding Maritime Security in the Indo-Pacific: The Cooperation-Competition Paradox

For this Masterclass, I shall provide a broad survey of the most salient maritime security issues afflicting the Indo-Pacific region, with this central question in mind: are we veering more towards cooperation or competition in the maritime domain? This short presentation highlights how the political, legal and operational ambiguity of the maritime medium contributes to the persistence of this cooperation-competition paradox, suggesting for a multi-disciplinary approach in better understanding maritime security in the region
