The Rise of Big Tech and the Changing Dynamics of International Politics?
In recent decades, leading technology firms, commonly referred to as Big Tech, have emerged as powerful global actors reshaping the contours of international politics, the global economy, and governance structures. This lecture examines the rise of Big Tech, such as the United States’ Nvidia, Alphabet, Apple, Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft, alongside China’s Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu, and Huawei, and their expanding influence in global affairs. Moving beyond traditional state-centric analyses, it explores how these firms function as political and economic power centers, often rivaling nation-states in their capacity to shape policy, security, and development agendas.
