Food on Campus

The main food area near the conference venue is North Spine Plaza, which is about a 10-minute walk away. It offers a range of dining options, including Pen & Inc., The Soup Spoon, Thai Express, Bismillah Biryani, McDonald’s, Subway, and other casual food outlets. Opening hours may vary, so participants are encouraged to check the latest information in advance.

Next to the Nanyang Executive Centre is Man Le Chinese Restaurant.

Food Near Campus

More dining choices are available in Boon Lay and Jurong East, which are accessible by public transport, taxi, or ride-hailing services. These areas have shopping malls, restaurants, cafes, food courts, and casual dining options.

  • Boon Lay: Jurong Point, located next to Boon Lay MRT station, is the nearest large shopping mall outside the NTU campus, with many dining and retail options.
  • Jurong East: Jurong East has several shopping malls and a wide range of restaurants and cafes. It is a convenient option for dinner or for participants staying in the west of Singapore.
  • City Centre: Participants who have more time may also wish to explore dining options in central Singapore, including Chinatown, Marina Bay, Bugis, and Orchard.

Local Food in Singapore

Singapore is well known for its diverse food culture. Typical local dishes include chicken rice, laksa, nasi lemak, roti prata, kaya toast, satay, char kway teow, and chilli crab. More information can be found at Singapore Tourism Board website.

Participants interested in local heritage cuisine may also wish to try Peranakan food, which reflects the culinary traditions of the Peranakan Chinese communities in Singapore and the region. It is known for its rich use of spices, herbs, and slow-cooked dishes, with examples including ayam buah keluak (chicken with black nut), babi pongteh (braised pork), chap chye (mixed vegetables), and kueh desserts (rice cakes).

Participants who have some free time may wish to visit some of the following places:

  • Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay: popular waterfront area with skyline views, walking paths, shopping, and garden attractions.
  • Singapore Botanic Gardens: historic garden and UNESCO World Heritage Site
  • Heritage districts and the Civic District: Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Gelam, and the Civic District offer heritage buildings, places of worship, museums, galleries, shops, cafes, and local food.
  • Sentosa: leisure island with beaches, family attractions, resorts, and entertainment options.
