Abstract
This presentation proposes a design agenda for higher education that integrates utopian imagination and hopepunk practices with speculative perspectives to catalyse the development of more aspirational and bold futures. The presentation argues for exploring, connecting, and applying utopian imagination, speculative design, and poetic playfulness as a way forward for higher education to reimagine and move towards more hopepunk futures. It introduces hopepunk thinking and perspectives to propose a design agenda for rewidening and rewilding higher education with utopian imagination. Firstly, the presentation outlines a hopepunk and vision-driven approach to reimagining futures in higher education. Secondly, it introduces a framework for ‘Bolder Higher Education Futurese’ through connecting utopian thinking, poetic methods, and speculative design with the domain of higher education futures. In conclusion, a matrix for wide and wild higher education is presented with four orientations concerning higher education futures for, in, with, and by the world.

Abstract
As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly integrated into education, it presents both opportunities and challenges. In this talk, A/P Chen Wenli explores the transformative potential of human-centered AI for intelligence augmentation (IA), emphasizing the enhancement of human capabilities rather than the replacement in learning contexts. This talk advocates for a shift from traditional AI, which often prioritizes automation and efficiency, to IA (intelligence augmentation) that fosters learner agency through meaningful human-AI collaboration and synergy. A/P Chen discusses how human-centered AI in education empowers students to take ownership of their learning journeys through personalized and adaptive strategies, addressing the risks of learners’ over-reliance of AI and cognitive laziness while enhancing their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
